MMORPG Gear News: Fans of Popular MMORPG Game ‘World of Warcraft’ Collaborate to Build Largest Online Game Information Resource
Posted by Shawn
Press Release: San Mateo, Calif. (PRWEB) September 7, 2007 — Wikia, Inc. (www.wikia.com) the leading provider of community resources for building and organizing free content on every topic, today announced that the World of Warcraft Wikia (WOWWiki) has surpassed the 40,000 article mark, making it one of the biggest, most comprehensive online resources for all-things related to the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft.
Since its founding in 2004, WOWWiki (www.wowwiki.com) has grown immensely and today has a wealth of quality, in-depth information covering the entirety of the Warcraft Universe including the articles on the game's characters, game play guides for "newbies," RTS games, novels, World of Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game books, and manga, as well as information on the game's expansion packs such as The Burning Crusade and The Wrath of the Litch King. In addition, WOWWiki is also a popular source for World of Warcraft interface customization information and franchise news.
WOWWiki is unique as it was built and is continually maintained by an active community of volunteers who are passionate about World of Warcraft and enjoy collaborating with fellow gamers to continue the growth and development of the WOWWiki site. Of the 40 or so people who run the site, one of the community's most active members is George Pribul, who also goes by the alias "Kirkburn," and has been contributing to and editing the WOWWiki site for over a year.
"The WOWWiki community is fantastic because it gives players the ability to create a social network and collaborate with each other outside of game play," said Kirkburn, WOWWiki Administrator. "More and more contributors and visitors come to WOWWiki on a daily basis and it has been really exciting to see the site take off over the past year–I think we offer gamers a unique and valuable resource that enhances the World of Warcraft experience."
A testament to its popularity, the WOWWiki site attracts over 2 million unique users per month and was recently ranked in top 1,500 sites for the first time–according to Alexa rankings based on three months of cumulative historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users.
